What is Geothermal

One of the more energy efficient alternatives to using fossil fuel-based energy sources is geothermal energy. Geothermal energy comes from heat stored beneath the surface of the earth. This geothermal energy can be used to cool or heat air and water in buildings through the use of geothermal heat pumps. This kind of energy can also be used to provide electricity to various communities. Currently, there are more than 20 countries that use geothermal energy.

Geothermal heat pumps

Geothermal heat pumps are a great alternative for those who want to save on energy costs. Although the initial cost of installing a geothermal system in one's home is usually twice or thrice that of conventional heating and cooling systems, geothermal heat pumps can help you save much money in the long run. Geothermal heat pumps are also more efficient than other conventional heating and cooling systems. There are also many benefits to using geothermal heat pumps, one of which is the possibility of being granted tax rebates and other grants that the government and various other institutions offer to those who install geothermal systems in their home.

Geothermal power plants

Geothermal power plants are constructed to capture geothermal energy from miles below the ground and to use this for producing electricity. Although the construction of geothermal power plants may disrupt land stability, using geothermal energy is still better than using fossil fuels for electricity. This is because the usage of geothermal energy is actually environment-friendly. It reduces the amount of emissions caused by fossil fuels. The fumes emitted by geothermal power plants are actually steam and not smoke, and don't damage the environment.
